Matthew Ison

July 15, 1969 - March 3, 2022

Matthew Wayne Ison, age 52, of Blountville passed away on Thursday March 3rd at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bristol, VA on July 15, 1969 to the late George Ison and his mother who is still living, Barbara (Walden) Ison. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents. Matthew was of the Baptist faith. He was an Army veteran and had worked in the food industry until he retired. He loved fishing and taking road trips with his wife. He loved his grandchildren and will be missed greatly by them. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 32 years, Kathleen Ison; 2 step children, Heather Howard (Billy), Matthew Hubble (Brandy); 4 grandchildren, Brayden Howard, Caleb Howard, Anthony Howard, and Kaitlyn Hubble; 2 sisters, Martha Miller (Jessie) and Rebekah Bernal (Deseree); a cousin who was also a very close friend Glenn Walden, a special uncle David Walden and his mother, Barbara (Walden) Ison; his brothers-in-law, John Gill and Chris Gill; and a special friend, Bill Hartley, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff, nurses, and doctors in ICU 3 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. A Memorial service for Matthew will be held at the Tetrick Bluff City Chapel on Tuesday March 8th, 2022 at 3 pm with Scott Price officiating.
