Ethel Mae (Canter) Winters

March 28, 1935 - October 6, 2020

Ethel Mae Canter Winters, age 85, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 from the Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Ethel was born in Elizabethton to the late Howard and Rosie Hicks Canter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Esther Marie Winters; two brothers, Berley Canter and Melvin “Jr” Canter and wife Ellen; two sisters, Ruby Peters and Virginia Harrison and husband Reynold; a special daughter-in-law, Penny Winters; a brother-in-law, John E. Russell; and the father of her children, Burnett “Bud” Winters. Ethel was a loving mother, sister, and mother-in-law, who loved the Lord and her family tremendously. She was a homemaker and was a devout member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday School and in the Bus Ministry. Ethel loved to cook for her family and loved working in her garden and taking care of those in need. Those left to cherish her legacy include her son, Bobby Winters, of Elizabethton; her sister, Ruth Ann Russell; a granddaughter, Rebecca Christina Parlier; and a grandson, Berley Wayne Clemmons. Several nieces, nephews, extended family, her church family and many many friends, also survive. The family will hold a graveside service at Scalf Cemetery Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 4:00 PM. All those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton for the wonderful and loving care shown to Ethel during her stay there. Also, to her former Pastor, Bobby Stout and his wife Jan for the prayers and spiritual support given to Ethel during her life. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to Pleasant Beach Baptist Church, 108 Pleasant Beach Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
