Carla M. Van Maldeghem

March 12, 1939 - January 14, 2022

Carla M. Van Maldeghem, 82, of Johnson City passed away Friday, January 14, 2022. Born in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of Chester and Dorothea Schuff. She grew up in Albany and attended the Vincentian Institute (High School) and upon graduation worked for the state law library. After her marriage to Eugene Van Maldeghem, they made their home and raised their family in Beaver, PA. She was very involved in her children’s lives and worked as a teacher’s aide and swimming teacher at the New Horizon School for children with special needs. In 1984, Carla returned to the state of NY, residing in both Rochester and Albany where she worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles, rising to the level of supervising manager of a number of DMV operations. After her retirement in 2010, Carla moved to TN to be close to her sister Karen and to enjoy the mountains and the mild weather. In retirement she kept busy with interior decorating and was the treasurer of her HOA for many years. She greatly enjoyed visits from her beloved family as well as activities and travel with her good friends. Carla was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; parents, Chester and Dorothea (Klein) Schuff; sister, Joan Schuff; brother, Donald Schuff. Survivors include her brother Robert (Kathy) Schuff, sisters Diana Craddock and Karen Orsini, and sister-in-law Shirley Schuff. She is also survived by her five children Paul (Jane), Barbara (James) Foster, Todd (Mabel), Charles, and Therese Meyers; 14 grandchildren, Rachael Ainsworth, Emily (Ben) Gregg, Katherine (Colton) Maher, Paul Van Maldeghem, Jr., Gregory Van Maldeghem, Amanda (Isaac) Mills, Jeremy Foster, Nolan (Julia) Foster, Brianna Foster, Todd (Jennipher) Van Maldeghem, Jr., Tyler (Santiana) Van Maldeghem, Brandy (Shaun) Calloway, Amber (Steve) Rittenhouse and Chelsea (Joseph) Patrisian; 14 great-grandchildren, Maria, Sophia, Helena, and Alethea Mills, Raelyn, Elijah, and Augustine Foster, Alexandria Roman, Leigha, Caydence, and Shaelie Calloway, John and Gabriella Glaab, and Mia Rittenhouse; numerous nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any veterans’ or first responders’ charitable organization. A visitation for Carla M. Van Maldeghem will be Friday, February 11, 2022, from 4 to 6 pm at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 10 am at Tetrick Funeral Services with Bishop Giles OFM presiding. The graveside committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park at 12:00 pm.
