Brian K. Whitson

September 2, 1967 - June 16, 2020

Brian K. Whitson, 52, of Johnson City, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents: Hoy and Arba Jane Whitson, James and Hollie Wallace Grindstaff; aunt, Omega Peterson, and special aunt, Hazel Weaver. He grew up in Erwin and graduated from Unicoi County High School in 1986. Brian worked for several years at Specialty Tire in Erwin. He was a member of Piney Flats Baptist Church. Brian loved people, especially his wife and parents, and spending time with the entire family. He also enjoyed spending time with his pets, and going to the beach. Those left to cherish Brian’s memory include his parents, Bob and Freada Grindstaff Whitson, his loving wife, Trieva Porter Whitson, cousins: Debbie and Steven Sparks, Jason and Amy Taylor and Kasen, Chris Taylor, brother-in-law, Frank Bond Porter, Jr., and his wife Dena, nieces, Analeigh and Izzy, uncle, Ronnie Whitson. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to the American Cancer Society specifically for melanoma research at American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123. The family will honor Brian’s life during an Entombment service at 10:00 am on Friday, June 19, 2020 at Washington County Memory Gardens with Pastor Alan Davis officiating.
